Maya Craig

Maya Craig is a documentary filmmaker based in San Francisco, focusing on character-driven storytelling about climate and the environment with a specialization in vérité cinematography. She has been a National Geographic Explorer since 2019, studying the global impacts of a warming Arctic. She was a director of photography and producer on feature documentary The Battle for Laikipia (Sundance 2024), and has shot and produced  a number of films about restoration in the Western U.S., including The Lost Salmon (Emmy Award NW 2023) and the forthcoming Undamming Klamath, with support from the Redford Center. Craig is a fellow at London’s Royal Geographical Society and holds a master’s in documentary film from UC Berkeley’s Graduate School of Journalism. She is the director of Healy (Mountainfilm 2024).
